Inkwell

A free creative writing prompter for anyone who would rather start writing than think about writing. No sign-up, nothing you write leaves your device, and once installed it opens offline. Pick a genre (or Surprise me), get a fresh prompt, and write for 2 or 5 minutes. Your story stays in your notes — we just open the door.

How to use Inkwell

1. Pick a genre, or choose "Surprise me" for a random prompt.
2. Set the timer for 2 or 5 minutes.
3. Write in the distraction-free editor until the timer ends.
4. Copy your piece out to your own notes — nothing is stored on a server.

Frequently asked questions

Is my writing saved anywhere?

No. Inkwell never sends your text to a server. Copy it out before closing the tab if you want to keep it.

Will I see the same prompt again?

Not in the same visit. Inkwell skips prompts you’ve already had until a genre runs out. It keeps no history between visits — nothing is stored.

Why only 2 or 5 minutes?

Short, timed sprints lower the barrier to start. Two minutes is enough for a vignette; five for a scene.
