Tarang: Learn
A seven-chapter guided tour of the guitar, from one string to a song.
The problem
Beginner guitar content is either a wall of chord diagrams or a video that cannot slow down. Learners need to hear what a strum actually is, one beat at a time, before a chord chart means anything.
Constraints
- Assume zero theory; every chapter has to compound the previous one.
- Real guitar sound, not a synthesiser — a learner should recognise what they hear from a real instrument.
- Work with or without a guitar in hand, on a phone or a laptop.
The approach, in order
- /01
Sequenced the material as seven short chapters: fretboard, a chord, the strum, patterns, keys, voicings, free play.
- /02
Built a sample-based guitar engine so a strum is six strings sounding in time, not one synthetic chord.
- /03
Slowed the strum down visually and audibly with a beat timeline so the learner sees each string sound.
- /04
Kept each chapter independent so a learner can jump in, but designed the order to build.
What it does now
A complete beginner can go from hearing one string to strumming a pattern in a key, with the option to keep going in the free-play sandbox.
